CHILDREN'S GRIEF CENTER

Children's Grief

Today's children face grief and loss in ways very different from adults. Death, not only of parents and family members, but of friends ... and not just "normal" death, but murder, suicide, drug overdoses, AIDS, abuse and violence. Parents may be dead or just plain not around for their children. There
could be divorce or other circumstances in the family. Today’s kids know about and live with daily anxiety about drugs, AIDS, abuse and violence. The chaos and fear of the world is instantly brought into their lives by TV and the internet and confronts them within seconds of an event.

Thanks to Mary Jane Milano, the mother of Jeff Milano-Johnson – who died on the Spencerport Lacrosse Field in April of this year, we now have a new section in our TCF Rochester web site dedicated to this topic. We hope that the materials identified below and available here as pdf files will assist parents and family members in this special area of grief.

To open these files it is required that you have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer. This application can be obtained free of charge at www.adobe.com.

In addition to these materials, Lifetime Care Center for Compassion and Healing offers "A Caring Place," professionally led, age-related, structured grief support sessions for children, teens and their parents or guardians. For information regarding the next 8-week series, call 585-475-8825.
